JINDAL TAKING CREDIT FOR PASSAGE OF LANDRIEU OCS BILL

As Senate Version Awaits Bush’s Signature, Jindal Claims Victory

BATON ROUGE – Bobby Jindal’s arrogance seems to grow by the day.

As today, Louisiana celebrates the passage of an OCS (Outer Continental Shelf) bill which will reap millions for the state from offshore oil royalties, its Jindal who is wrongly claiming victory, even though it was Sen. Mary Landrieu’s version and not his own which awaits President Bush’s signature.

It was Congressman Charlie Melancon who spoke on the House floor in favor of the bill, not Jindal. It was Jindal who in the past few weeks spoke out against the Landrieu-sponsored bill, pushing his own version, which opened up oil exploration in restricted areas and was favored only by conservative Republicans.

The Senate bill co-sponsored by Landrieu was passed in its entirety and received strong bi-partisan favor in both Houses of Congress. Although Jindal’s version was rejected, the so-called Whiz Kid of Washington glows in the limelight once again.

“Jindal operates with an air of self-importance and feels that he rightfully deserves any and all accolades for passage of this historic measure. It is this same attitude of entitlement that will hurt Louisiana and the voters of this great state need to pay attention,” said Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

“He has always been too closely tied to the Bush administration and has used that connection for the betterment of his own political career rather than for the state of Louisiana. Jindal is an opportunist as his actions of today make clear,” said Whittington.
