CHAIRMAN WHITTINGTON RE-ELECTED

Democratic State Central Committee Elects Officers

 

BATON ROUGE – Members of the Louisiana Democratic Party’s governing body, the Democratic State Central Committee, re-elected Chairman Chris Whittington at its March 15 regular meeting.

 

Whittington, a Baton Rouge trial lawyer, will serve his first four-year term. He has served as chairman since January 2006 completing the unexpired term of then-chairman Jim Bernhard. An active party member since college, Whittington looks forward to a term of continued growth and progress for Louisiana Democrats.

“I am honored with the recognition and confidence in which the members re-elected me as chairman. I look forward to working closely with the DSCC members as we continue to build on our organization elect Democrats. We have a great amount of important work to accomplish and I know, as Democrats, we will work together toward success,” said Whittington.

 

The committee also elected its other officers.

 

Elected were Michael McHale of Lake Charles, first vice chairman; Elsie Burkhalter, of Slidell, second vice chairman; David Gereighty, of Jefferson, treasurer; Wesley T. Bishop, New Orleans, third vice chairman; Alton Bailey, Leesville, fourth vice chairman; Arlenda Williams, Houma, secretary; City Councilman Brian Thomas, Opelousas, vice chairman for elected officials, Kenny Hooks, Baton Rouge, legal counsel, Arthur Morrell of New Orleans, clerk and state Sen. Derrick Shepherd of Marrero, parliamentarian.

 

Ben Jeffers, of Baton Rouge, won election as the Democratic National Committee member at-large; House Speaker Pro-tem Karen Carter Peterson of New Orleans, Democratic National Committeewoman; and former Congressman and state Rep. Claude “Buddy” Leach of Leesville, Democratic National Committeeman.
