Contribution to Party Not Out of
Ordinary for
Governor
BATON ROUGE – Not one single contribution to the
Louisiana Democratic Party was earmarked
specifically for the creation or airing of any
ads during this election cycle and for Jim
McCrery or Roger Villere to state otherwise is
a lie,” according to Louisiana Democratic Party
Chairman Chris
Whittington.
“Gov. Blanco’s contribution was given as
a symbol of thanks for the Party’s work on her
campaign and its continued efforts to help
other Democrats running for office. The fact
that the state Republican Party alleges that
any contribution to the Democratic Party was
designated for a specific project shows they
clearly have no idea what they are talking
about,” Whittington
said.
In response to the comment that the
Party was screening any ads for prospective
contributors, the answer is no, according to
Whittington.
“The Louisiana Democratic Party raises
money throughout the year. During this
reporting period, the Party continued to
collect contributions raised at its annual
fundraiser, the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, which
was held July 21. A number of contributions
were raised at this event, including those
given by both major Democrats running for
governor,” said
Whittington.
“I find it equally shocking that both
McCrery and Villere, who are supposedly
knowledgeable in campaign finance, would
blatantly lie about something for which they
have no proof,” Whittington
said.
“Knowingly telling a lie is a character
flaw that both of these gentlemen should go to
church and stay there until they work this flaw
out. It seems for a party which claims to take
the ethical high road; the truth seems to be
transparent when they are trying to deceive the
public.”
