…WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL?

Bush’s Treatment of Libby a Slap in Face of Forefathers

BATON ROUGE – As we celebrate the anniversary of our country’s birth – a democracy that stands for liberty and justice for all – President Bush has spat in the eye of Lady Justice and decided he and he alone can bestow reparation for criminal activity to those tied to the White House. Rather than celebrating grilling hamburgers or watching fireworks for the 4th of July, Bush chose to “honor” our forefathers by abolishing the sentence of Scooter Libby,” according to Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

“Bush’s commutation of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence is an abomination and makes a mockery of the United States’ judicial system. His actions show a blatant hypocrisy in treatment of those who break the law and shows others that there are two forms of justice in this country – that according to the constitution and that according to Bush,” Whittington said.

“Bush is a disgrace to the American people and especially to our men and women fighting for the independence of Iraq. They must fight for the rights of these people when their own are compromised by the whim of the president. Our members of Congress, both Democrat and Republican, should stand united in condemning President Bush for his actions,” Whittington said.
