Jindal Offers Gulf Dead Zone Amendment One Day

Only to Vote Against It the Next

BATON ROUGE – Mr. Jindal has truly proven his loyalty to the GOP by promising Louisiana Gulf Coast assistance only to vote against it in the end – an infamous maneuver by George Bush in promises of hurricane recovery funding, according to Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

On June 26, 2007, Mr. Jindal proposed an amendment to Interior Appropriations Bill #2643 which offered an additional $2.5 million for the EPA’s Gulf of Mexico Program which in short funds research to restore and protect the Gulf of Mexico. The next day, Jindal voted against the bill containing his own amendment in order to remain lock-step in line with the GOP, according to Whittington.

“As always, Jindal took the floor of the House by grandstanding and making a passionate plea for help to the still stricken citizens of Louisiana. Again, Mr. Jindal is showing his true loyalty to Bush and the Republican Party by voting down time and time again funding to help Louisiana in any way,” Whittington said.

“Here is a man who absolutely cannot be trusted to guide the future of our citizens because he has always and will continue to vote against them to appease his party. Mr. Jindal assumes the people of Louisiana are out of touch with his actions in Washington and will continue to buy into his same Republican rhetoric of a revolution of change for the state. If his actions are as calculating and self-serving as he has displayed in Congress, what makes any responsible voter in Louisiana believe he won’t do the same as governor,” Whittington said.
