A MESSAGE FROM THE LOUISIANA DEMOCRATIC PARTY ON REP. GARY BEARD’S CAMPAIGN FOR LT. GOVERNOR

The role of the lieutenant governor is to act as an ambassador for the state of Louisiana; to promote the state, “sell” its qualities for both tourism and economic development and assure the rest of the world that Louisiana is Open for Business in an ethical manner and we believe Gary Beard is not that man.

The Louisiana Legislature, through several proposed ethics reform bills, is on the verge of enacting sweeping changes as to the way the state conducts business. This is a solid attempt to redefine the state’s image in the eyes of business leaders worldwide who may chose Louisiana as the site of their next economic development.

Rep. Beard is now under scrutiny for alleged unethical financial transactions involving his film studio project, as reported in the Times Picayune. In a time when Louisiana continues to fight the stigma of corrupt government leadership, it is unconscionable that someone with such unethical business dealings as Gary Beard would announce his intention to run for lieutenant governor.
