Sen. Landrieu Reiterates Support for Sen. Breaux

WASHINGTON – United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today reiterated her support for former Senator John Breaux, D-La., should he seek to serve as Louisiana's next governor.

"John Breaux is the right person to unify Louisiana in this very difficult time," Sen. Landrieu said in response to erroneous news accounts published today reporting speculation that Sen. Landrieu may not support Sen. Breaux should he run for governor.   "In all the years that he has served Louisiana, he has remained forward-looking.

"He is capable of being an effective governor moving Louisiana forward in the future. He knows how to cross the partisan divide and deliver results, and I hope to have the opportunity to work with him to continue to move Louisiana forward."

Sen. Landrieu echoed remarks she made in a public statement on March 21, in which she said, "John Breaux most certainly has the know-how and experience and the right positioning should he step in to lead Louisiana… I think he would be a wonderful leader for our state and someone we could really rely on to lead us through a very difficult time."
