JINDAL SAYS IRAQ WAR NEEDS THE MONEY, LOUISIANA CAN WAIT

BATON ROUGE – Partisan puppet Bobby Jindal today denied Louisiana its share of $6.4 billion in recovery relief by voting to further fund the Iraqi War as he danced for his Republican puppet masters in Washington.

True to form, Jindal chose to walk the party line and shut out hurricane relief aid that would help the people of Louisiana not only recovery but rebuild their lives all to keep his good standing with the Bush Administration, according to Louisiana Democratic Party Chairman Chris Whittington.

“Jindal had the chance to give desperately needed disaster relief to the people of Louisiana who need it most – working families struggling to rebuild their lives, schools, small businesses, and bankrupt state and local governments, but he’s fine with rebuilding Iraqi schools, Iraqi roads, Iraqi bridges and the Iraqi coast,” Whittington said.

“Jindal is a hypocrite. On one hand he claims to reject the Washington bureaucracy that has slowed the aid to Louisiana and on the other he steps right in line and votes with them,” Whittington said.

“The people of Louisiana need to open their eyes to Bobby Jindal and see him for what he truly is, an unrelenting opportunist who will further his standing with the Republicans at any cost – and today the cost is just too high.”

Here is a laundry list of just what Jindal denied the people of Louisiana:

·         $1.3 billion to repair and complete flood and storm damage reduction projects in Louisiana and Mississippi.

·         $4.3 billion for the FEMA Disaster Relief Fund, in order to cover the cost of waiving Stafford Act state and local government matching fund requirements for disaster assistance programs.

·         $140 million for farmers and ranchers affected by the hurricanes.

·         $120 million for disaster relief for /fishing industries on the Louisiana Gulf Coast.

·         $30 million for colleges and universities and $30 million for schools in the Gulf Coast.

·         $25.1 million to allow the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program to continue to make and service disaster loans to homeowners and businesses.

·         $14 million to increase oversight of rebuilding efforts and expenditure of funds dedicated to Hurricane recovery in Gulf Coast.
